You deserve to love the way you look

Breast augmentation surgery boasts some of the highest rates of patient satisfaction, and every year, thousands of women have the procedure and walk away thrilled with their results. Sometimes, however, unexpected complications, lifestyle changes, or a shift in aesthetic preferences leaves women with breast implants they no longer love. That’s where we come in.

Our board certified plastic surgeons understand how important it is to feel great about the way you look—and how troubling it can be when you don’t feel confident about your breasts. Most common reasons for breast implant revision

The decision to have breast augmentation is an incredibly personal one—and the choice to have your implants removed or swapped out is equally personal. There are many reasons women choose to have breast implant revision, and following are just a few of the most common.

You want an updated look

People change over time. Whether you’ve experienced life changes that impacted your breasts (having kids, gaining or losing weight, aging) or you simply have different preferences, sometimes the look you wanted from your first surgery just isn’t the look you want or have now.

Most often, our breast implant revision patients simply want to change their implant size or are excited by newer generation of silicone implants that provide a more natural look and feel and want to switch from saline to silicone gel.

Breast implant complications

While complications associated with breast implants or breast augmentation surgery are increasingly rare, they can happen. Sometimes, issues may arise during surgery, while you are healing, or even years down the road. Some potential complications that may necessitate breast revision surgery are:

Capsular contracture is a painful condition that occurs when the naturally occurring tissue capsule around the breast implants shrinks and puts extra pressure on the breast implant. This can results in breast pain, over firmness, and a distorted appearance. The cause of this condition is largely unknown.

Breast implant displacement or “bottoming out” occurs when the breast implant falls below the natural breast crease, leading to an unnaturally full appearance in the bottom half of the breast. This can also cause the nipples to appear overly high and the upper breast to look deflated. Bottoming out is often the result of over-dissection of the lower area of the breast pocket during surgery or if overly large or heavy implants are placed.

Symmastia or “bread loafing” describes a condition where breast implants extend too closely to the center of the chest and touch in the middle, forming a bread loaf-like appearance. This most often results from implants being placed improperly, extending the breast pocket too far toward the center during surgery, or placing breast implants that are too wide for a patient’s chest wall and frame.

Double bubble occurs when the breast implant drops behind the inframammary fold, creating an indentation or fold across the bottom of the breast. This creates the appearance of two natural breast folds.

Your breast implant revision at Berks Plastic Surgery

The specifics of your procedure will depend on the nature of your concerns. Sometimes, we can correct a complication without removing or replacing breast implants. Most often, however, we recommend removing the original breast implants and replacing them with new implants that better meet your needs.
